Forty intensive-care departments of the Erasmus Medisch Centrum in Rotterdam have been equipped with Tunable White lighting in cooperation with SPI. MacBright has produced and supplied this LED fixture, which is suitable for dropped ceilings. The reason is clear: Erasmus MC opted for the square LED panels, due to their calming and relaxing effect, to the benefit of its patients.

Tunable White

LED fixtures can be equipped with automatic daylight simulation, like at the Erasmus MC in Rotterdam. In consultation with the hospital, a special programme was created to create a fixed “daily rhythm” for patients. Using Tunable White, the LED lighting can automatically switch on gradually, generate daylight, and slowly switch off again. Studies have shown that patients heal most effectively with regularity.

Special lighting for hospitals
